When you have moved or renamed an InfoPath form template (XSN), the associated XML files become orphaned from their associated template. The Qdabra Modify PI Tool for InfoPath (QdModifyPI) modifies the InfoPath processing instruction ("HREF") attribute of an XML file to point to the new template's location.

After installing this tool, you can right-click on any InfoPath XML file in Windows Explorer and the tool will show you the current HREF, allowing you to enter a new one. In addition, you can modify the PI for all XML files in a folder for quick bulk-updates.

Note if you are trying to change the PI for forms stored on SharePoint you either need to use SharePoint's "relink" functionality. To modify them with the Qdabra Modify PI Tool, download the XML files to another location accessible in Windows Explorer.
